Home Our story Meet the founder
Meet the founderHi, I'm Alexandra Keniston.
Founder & lead shopperBorn and raised in Richmond, I started FrontStep Delivery to give my neighbors something the big apps couldn't: a dependable local face who treats your grocery run like it's my own. For now, that face is mine — I shop the lists and drive the routes myself.
Why I started FrontStep
For years I watched the people around me — busy parents, neighbors without a car, friends working double shifts — lose hours to the same errand every week. Curbside still meant driving across town. The big apps piled on fees and sent a different stranger every time. I kept thinking Richmond deserved something more personal than that.
So I started small and on purpose: one neighborhood, my own car, and a simple promise — order however's easiest, and I'll handle the rest. Before FrontStep, I spent years in social work — much of it in foster care — where my whole job was making sure people didn't slip through the cracks. That work taught me how much a little dependable help can change someone's week, and it's exactly the spirit I wanted to bring home to my own neighbors.
How I work
Right now, when you order from FrontStep, you get me — picking your produce by hand, checking the dates, texting you the second something's out of stock so you stay in control. I keep the prices honest and the communication clear, because that's the whole reason this exists.
Driving every route myself isn't just scrappy — it's how I learn what each block actually needs, so FrontStep gets better every single week. After years of looking out for families in foster care, doing this for my own neighbors feels like the natural next step — the same care, just a little closer to home.
What I want FrontStep to be
My goal isn't to become the next faceless app. It's to be Richmond's own — the trusted neighbor you call when life gets full, run by someone who genuinely cares whether your week got a little easier. Quality, consistency, community: those aren't slogans to me. They're the standard I hold every order to.
I'm not delivering groceries. I'm giving people back their time — and I treat every order like it's headed to my own front step.— Alexandra Keniston, Founder
